Karaoke Machines

New Years Eve: you're in a crowded, smoky bar. It's loud and rowdy but everyone's having fun. The last song was a bust, so you decide to get up on stage and bust out your best version of "American Pie". It's an instant hit! Everyone is singing along, and when you're done you win the prize for best song of the night, even though you were off key and sounded like a bullfrog.

That's right, you're at a Karaoke bar! Long a favorite in Asia, karaoke has exploded in popularity around the world in the last few years. With advances in technology, karaoke machines are cheaper, more portable, and more fun than ever!

Thought to have been invented in Japan by drummer Daisuke Inoue, the karaoke machine wasn't patented until 1983 by Roberto del Rosario, a Filipino inventor.

Regardless of who invented it, karaoke has become a popular form of entertainment around the world, and for good reason! Karaoke is a great ice-breaker at parties, and even the most shy and reserved of people will get up to belt out their favorite tunes.

One of the best parties I have ever been to was a karaoke party. When a good friend of mine told me he was renting a karaoke machine for his birthday, I thought it was the lamest idea I had ever heard. But being a good friend, I went anyway. Boy was I ever wrong! Everyone had a blast, and I found out just how fun karaoke can be.

Since then, I've been everyone from Elvis to Axel Rose, and I've had a lot of fun. So, next time you get invited to a karaoke party, make sure you jump at the chance!

Karaoke Home System

!±8± Karaoke Home System

If you're after a karaoke home system, there are several different options you can choose from. Today I'll be talking about four of the most popular choices, and explaining the benefits of the different setups.

First up, let's consider the main categories available for the average home system, these being:

Karaoke machines. Karaoke players. Microphones with built-in songs. Setups aimed at kids.

Looking at karaoke machines, these are either fully self-contained systems including one or two microphones, speakers, amplifier, and a built-in screen for viewing the lyrics on. They tend to use CD+G karaoke discs, the most popular format available on the market. Some machines don't include a screen, and have to be plugged into your T.V. or monitor to view the lyrics. The most obvious advantage of these setups is that they're just about ready to use straight out of the box. Put in a CD+G disc, and away you go.

Karaoke players, like the name suggests, simply play karaoke songs. Different players will be able to use different formats, commonly from CD+G, MP3+G, and divx. Of course, as they are simply players, you will need to have other equipment to use them - mainly a sound system of some sort, and a T.V. or monitor to connect them to.

Microphones with built-in songs are very portable, and only require a T.V. or monitor to be used. For better sound quality, it is a good idea to connect them to a sound system too. These mics generally contain a chip with songs inside them, though the number of songs and quality of recordings can vary. Extra chips can usually be purchased with more songs on them.

If you're interested in karaoke for kids, generally either a cheaper karaoke machine or basic microphone with built-in songs should be sufficient until they get older. There isn't too much point in spending a fortune on something they may grow tired of in a short space of time.

Whichever of the above options is most suitable for you, karaoke is a fun activity for the family or with friends. You'll be sure to have fun with any of the different setups mentioned above.
